We live in a crazy period which shows us that the most valuable resource is time. Being a trainee or junior developer in the IT world might be hard and stressful. If you want to avoid certain difficulties you need to be ready to prevent them. Many people who want to start their career in IT spend numerous hours searching for practical advice to assist them to find their first job opportunity. That is why we analyze and summarize all our working experience to help candidates save time and effort.

English language. As we all know, in the IT sphere it is a normal practice to cooperate with people from different countries. A good level of English rises your chances of getting a good job in a multinational company within your home country or finding work abroad. It’s also the language of international communication, the media, and the Internet, so you can use English to increase your professional knowledge. Good English is a must-have for candidates who want to work in IT.

Good quality of your CV. The resume is your face for recruiters. Due to the well-thought-out CV, you can make a good first impression on the recruiter and influence the decision of the specialist to consider you as a candidate for the job. You should be sure that you have made the maximum effort to create a resume of high quality:

– contact information (add an active link with your e-mail address, phone number, and LinkedIn account – make sure that the recruiter won’t see any inappropriate information which can affect on recruiter’s decision in a negative way);

– resume summary or objective (create a short cover message where you attach the main goal of your search/why are you considering a new opportunity);

– work experience (even if you just started your career in a new sphere, better to describe your previous experience in a few short phrases e.g. working on a pet project for more than 50 hours, implementing 5 useful features, recording and tracking bags, etc. Do not be afraid to use numbers for your experience – it can attract the recruiter’s attention);

– education (add a short description in your resume for this item, do not forget about the name of degree, name of educational institution, and years attended);

– skills (be honest at this part of your CV, characterize skillset shortly);

– additional information (it will be a plus if you add other info which helps you improve the quality of your resume: activities, projects, awards, training, certifications, hobbies and interests, volunteering experience, and others. You can attach active links to your projects/training/certifications, it shows to the person who reviews this CV visual examples of your work).

A good resume should fit on 1-2 pages. It is better not to overload the document with text. You’re not writing your biography, are you?

Preparation of professional social media. Stack Overflow, GitHub, LinkedIn and other virtual networks may help you find your dream job. These platforms include extremely valuable power – people. Due to the target audience, you can create, share, and exchange information and professional ideas, ask for advice and build your own army of assistance. Accordingly to this, it is a big advantage to use all available methods to grow yourself as a professional. Do not be scared to ask for help and expand your circle of acquaintances with different people.

Interview. The final steps to the dream job remain. If the recruiter and you arrange the interview it is a good sign that you could attract the attention of the specialist to yourself. Before the interview, it will be a huge plus if you try to find additional information about the company in which you interviewing (check their social media and find their official website), and make your own research. Research about a company before your interview allows you to gain a better understanding of the employer’s expectations and compose effective answers to interview questions. Also, it helps you learn about what the company does. It’s also a great way to find out whether you’d be a good cultural match for the company and whether they’d be able to meet your own career path and lifestyle needs. Don’t be late for the interview, create short templates for your answers and be yourself.

If you follow the rules, I can congratulate you. I am sure that this practical advice helps you to find your own special place in the IT world. Life is too short to waste it on work you don’t like.
